NFL shocker: Travis Kelce reportedly wants to join the New York Giants

Uncertainty around Travis Kelce’s future has fueled speculation across the NFL this offseason, but a new rumor has added a twist to the conversation.

The Kansas City Chiefs star has not yet confirmed whether he plans to continue playing, leaving open the possibility of retirement, a return to Kansas City, or a more surprising outcome.

One recent rumor circulating in media circles suggests that if Kelce decides to keep playing, he could consider joining the New York Giants, a move that would send the longtime Chiefs tight end to the NFC after spending his entire career in Kansas City.

The rumor was raised by Craig Carton on The Craig Carton Show, where the host hinted at the possibility of the future Hall of Famer exploring a move to New York.

“He wants to come back for another year, but he does not want to go back to Kansas City,” Carton said on his show.

“I saw a story today that Travis Kelce wants to play for the New York Giants! That way he and his wife can live in New York City.”

Emphatically, he added, “do not sleep on the Giants signing Kelce this offseason!”

The rumor has sparked immediate discussion among fans and analysts alike because of how synonymous Kelce has become with the Chiefs.

Drafted by Kansas City in 2013, the tight end has become one of the most productive players at his position in league history.

Over more than a decade with the franchise, he has been a centerpiece of the Chiefs’ offense and a key partner to quarterback Patrick Mahomes, helping lead the team to multiple Super Bowl appearances and championships.

Even late in his career, Kelce remains productive. During the 2025 season, he appeared in all 17 games and finished with 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns, numbers that still placed him among the NFL’s more reliable tight ends.

Still, the biggest question remains whether Kelce intends to play at all in 2026.

Retirement decision still looming for Chiefs star

Kelce, now 36, has openly acknowledged that he is evaluating his next step as he approaches the final stage of his career.

Reports throughout the offseason have indicated that retirement remains a real possibility, though some people close to him believe he could return for another season.

That uncertainty has naturally opened the door to speculation about what a final chapter might look like if he decides to keep playing.

Leaving Kansas City would represent a dramatic shift for a player who has spent his entire professional career with the Chiefs. The franchise has built much of its modern offensive identity around Kelce’s unique ability as a receiving tight end, and his chemistry with Mahomes has been central to their success over the past decade.

For the Giants, the hypothetical move would provide a proven veteran weapon as the franchise continues rebuilding its roster and offensive identity.

New York has been searching for consistent pass-catching options and leadership within its offense, making the idea of adding an accomplished veteran like Kelce intriguing – even if it remains purely speculative at this stage.
