Soccer fans will remember a touching moment when Neymar, still in his first cycle at Santos FC in Brazil, received a visit from Matheus, a six-year-old boy battling leukemia.
During the visit, the little boy asked Ney to do a little dance to celebrate if he scored a goal. And the 33-year-old striker kept his promise. The video of the moment went viral and touched all sports fans. Now, more than a decade later and fully recovered, the two have reunited and moved everyone once again.
Neymar reunited with Matheus
Before facing Juan Aurich in the Copa Libertadores, Matheus met Neymar and did not miss the opportunity to ask him to celebrate with a dance move, moving his arms, if he scored a goal. Fortunately, the boy’s wish came true and both Neymar and his teammates danced as Matheus had asked.
Happily, the boy successfully overcame his illness and was reunited with the footballer after a touching initiative by the club. The long-awaited moment was shared by the club’s official Instagram account in an emotional video and a post with several photos of the moment.
In the reel, Matheus reviews what happened and, when he is reunited with his idol, he takes the opportunity to thank him:
“I wanted to thank you for everything, because both you and Santos are very important to me. You gave me motivation for my treatment, and I will continue to support you for the rest of my life,” said Matheus, who is now 19 years old. “It’s gratifying to have you back,” he confessed.
“It‘s good to see you and meet you again years later” said Neymar, who signed a jersey for the young man (which already had the autographs of several players from the professional squad) and, of course, they recreated the dance again, but this time in a totally different context.
Meanwhile, Neymar and Santos avoided relegation by beating Cruzeiro 3-0 and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana. After the match, the striker thanked the fans and confirmed that he will undergo surgery to continue treating his knees.
