Neymar dreams of the 2026 World Cup: promise, Flamengo rumors and a future away from Santos

Neymar closed the season with an outstanding performance at Santos, where he became the star player during the final stretch of the championship and was instrumental in avoiding relegation. The former Barcelona, PSG and Al-Hilal player took on the leadership of the team in the most critical moments and responded on the pitch, which allowed Peixe to achieve its main sporting objective of the year.

However, once survival is assured, the Brazilian striker’s focus is no longer on the immediate present, but on his great personal goal: to play in the 2026 World Cup with the Brazilian national team. At 33 years of age, the number 10 is aware that he needs continuity, competitive rhythm and a highly demanding environment to get back on the radar of the national team.

Neymar does not give up despite not being called up

So far, Neymar has not been called up by Carlo Ancelotti, the current Brazil coach, an absence that has generated debate among fans and the local press. Nevertheless, the striker’s enthusiasm remains intact and he made this clear during an event held in Sao Paulo with singer Thiaguinho, where he surprised with an ambitious promise.

“We will do everything possible, even the impossible, to bring this World Cup back to Brazil. If we reach the final, I promise I will score. In July you can ask me to account for it,” Neymar told the audience. He also left a direct message for the Italian coach: “Help us, Ancelotti!”.

Santos, a step backwards in his career?

Although his individual level was high, Santos does not seem to be the ideal scenario for Neymar to prepare for a World Cup. The low competitive level of the team and the limited international demand could play against him in his attempt to return to the Canarinha, which opens the door to a possible change of club in the short term.

In this context, rumors began to circulate linking the Brazilian star with Flamengo, recent champion of the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirao, a destination that would allow him to compete at the highest continental level and remain in the international spotlight.

When was Neymar’s last match with Brazil?

Neymar’s last appearance for the Brazilian national team was on October 17, 2023, in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in Montevideo. In that match, the striker suffered a serious knee injury – a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus – which left him out of action for a long period.

Now, recovered and with continuity, Neymar is dreaming again. His immediate future will be key to knowing whether the ’10’ will be able to fulfill his promise and have one last great meeting with history.
