Navarrete retains title after controversial decision

Emanuel ‘Vaquero’ Navarrete suffered throughout the weekend, but managed, in an unexpected way, to defeat Filipino Charly Suarez, a challenger who looked dangerous from the start and who gave a great fight until it had to be stopped, in an event held in San Diego, California.

Over the course of eight rounds, the fight was exciting as both fighters did not even give themselves space for a study round, but went on the offensive from the start. The exchange of blows began and continued until the eighth round, when the fight was stopped

A complicated fight with a controversial ending

Until that moment, it seemed that the Cowboy had a slight advantage and that’s how the judges ruled it, after they had to stop the fight precisely because of a cut on the Mexican’s eyebrow, caused by an accidental headbutt with his rival in the sixth round. Charly Suarez dodged a blow from the Cowboy and responded to the champion’s face, but when he raised his head to fix his guard, he collided with the Mexican’s face, causing a severe cut

Although the referee determined that the fight should continue, the dominance changed in favor of the Filipino and he dominated the seventh round, but for the eighth, the doctor decided to stop the fight

The fight was decided on the scorecards, although there was speculation that a technical knockout could be declared in favor of the Filipino, but this did not happen because of the conditions in which the fight was stopped. If it had been, the Vaquero would have lost his belt.

The other version that appeared was that of a technical knockout, which would have left the Mexican fighter without a title, but after a long pause, the announcer confirmed that the fight was stopped because of an accidental headbutt, so they would go to the scorecards to define the winner

In the end, Emanuel Navarrete took the victory by unanimous decision, with scorecards of 77-76, 78-75 and 77-76, to put his record at 39 wins, 31 of them by knockout, with two losses and a draw. Meanwhile, Charly Suarez placed his record at 18 wins, 10 of them by knockout, with two losses.
