Hugo Mosshagen, a 20-year-old Swedish goalkeeper for BK Forward in the third division, was shot dead in a residential area west of Orebro, a city about 200 kilometres from Stockholm.
Authorities were alerted to a shooting and, upon arrival, found the young goalkeeper seriously injured.
Hugo Mosshagen, who was shot several times, died shortly afterwards in hospital.

The main hypothesis of the Swedish authorities is that the murder of Hugo Mosshagen was a case of mistaken identity, and that the real target of the killer was someone who accompanied him.
So far, no arrests have been made; police are conducting routine investigations and gathering evidence at the scene.

Authorities have also ruled out any possibility of revenge and any link between the goalkeeper and gangs or criminal activities.
Investigations are progressing intensively, with authorities conducting interrogations, searches with canine units and analyzing a large amount of surveillance footage collected in the area.

Joakim Gunnarsson, Hugo’s father, told ‘Expressen’ that “his big dream was to become a professional footballer. He devoted all his time to it and this year was going to be his year.”
“It’s an immense void. One second you feel anger and the next sadness because you have lost one of your children in a totally unnecessary way. In a totally absurd way. He saw everyone, talked to everyone and wanted to help in any way he could,” he shared.
