Larry Holmes knows how hard the fists of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson hit, and based on his experience he gave his prediction on who would take the win if this fight were to become a reality.
Holmes faced Ali in October 1980 where Caesars Palace in Las Vegas saw him crowned victor by a 10th round knockout. This fight was Muhammad’s penultimate fight and Larry was heavily criticized as the American was beginning to show deteriorating health. Years later, Holmes would feel the force of Tyson’s fists after being defeated on January 22, 1988.
Despite this experience, in a recent dialogue with TMZ Sports, Holmes described perfectly how he imagines the incredible fight would unfold, favoring Ali:
Mike Tyson would take a beating because he’s a face fighter. He comes in from the bottom, and Muhammad Ali is a jabber. He would nail him with the jab like he did Joe Frazier. So Mike Tyson would have to dodge that jab and he’d have a lot of trouble doing it.
The history of both legends
Muhammad shined in the 1960s and 1970s, leaving in the fans’ memories fights -and victories- against rivals like Sonny Liston or George Foreman.
Mike Tyson also achieved incredible feats in 1980. Undoubtedly, one of the most memorable was his WBC heavyweight title victory over Trevor Berbick in 1986. This achievement even led him to become the youngest heavyweight champion in history, and even today, no one has been able to take it away from him.
