Mookie Betts spends a day on the golf course with Barack Obama

Former President Barack Obama and Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts recently crossed paths in a setting far removed from press briefings or packed stadiums, spending a quiet day together on the golf course in Southern California.

As reported by TMZ, the two played a full eighteen hole round last Tuesday at Lakeside Golf Club, one of the area’s most private and tightly guarded clubs.

Security was noticeable but discreet, with Secret Service agents on site and law enforcement nearby, allowing the outing itself to remain calm and uninterrupted.

Once the round ended, Betts barely had time to slow down. He left the course and headed straight to Disney Studios, where he taped an episode of the ABC comedy series Shifting Gears.

The quick pivot from manicured fairways to a television set captured the unusual rhythm of Betts‘ offseason, one that blends sport, media, and public life in equal measure.

A relationship built beyond sports

The golf outing did not come out of nowhere. Earlier this year, Betts took part in The Obama Foundation Futures Series at Hyde Park Academy, speaking with student athletes about leadership, resilience, and thinking beyond the scoreboard.

Those conversations focused on real life lessons and long-term perspective, values central to the foundation’s work.

Back in uniform, Betts remains one of the most respected figures inside the Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse.

He entered 2025 coming off a demanding season that tested him in new ways. Early health issues and a defensive move to shortstop forced adjustments, but even without his typical MVP level production, Betts stayed reliable. His defense remained sharp, his presence steady, and his leadership unquestioned.

That ability to move comfortably between worlds is part of what makes moments like this stand out. One day, Betts is mentoring students alongside a former president. The next, he is filming a television show.

Somewhere in between, he is preparing for another season at the highest level of professional baseball.
