The relationship between Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot, Liverpool’s manager, has been strained recently and it seems that the Egyptian will no longer be a key part of the Reds’ future.
Slot left him out of the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter in Milan (0-1). For his part, Salah threatened a few days ago not to return from the Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament he will leave for on Monday.
Salah went from being an undisputed starter for the Reds to sitting on Slot’s bench in the last three games. This situation made the striker publicly explode: “I don’t know why, but it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me at the club. This is not acceptable to me, I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t understand it. It seems to me that someone doesn’t want me at the club. I had a good relationship with the coach. Slot and Salah spoke on Friday and the Egyptian returns to the squad for the match against Brighton, but his future remains up in the air.
MLS commissioner ‘flirts’ with Salah’s arrival
With this situation facing one of Liverpool’s and the Premier League’s stars in recent years, MLS commissioner Don Garber is already beginning to try to lure the Egyptian star.
During the gala where Lionel Messi received the MLS MVP award, the league’s commissioner took the opportunity to send a message to Salah and try to convince him to come to the North American league
“I’ve seen some rumors about Mo Salah. We believe very much in the sanctity of a contract; it’s a US business dynamic. Mo is under contract at Liverpool, people we know. It’s a great team,” Garber said.
“Obviously, if [Salah] ever does decide to come to Major League Soccer, we’ll welcome him with open arms,” added the commissioner.
Finally, he included Messi and Thomas Muller in the conversation to ask him to talk to both of them and get their opinion of the league.
“I would say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and Thomas Muller and see how happy they have been and how successful they have been and how much they have really embraced being in Major League Soccer”.
Wayne Rooney have commented that “he is destroying his legacy at Liverpool.”
