Mina Kimes highlights Jason Kelce’s role in supporting women in sports media

Jason Kelce walked away after a storied 13-year NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 and stepped into the television booth.

His reputation as one of the most vocal, larger-than-life personalities in league history naturally carried over to expectations of his performance as an analyst on ESPN’s NFL coverage.

While his wife, Kylie Kelce, half-jokingly suggested he might be the “most difficult” personality to manage in the ESPN studio, colleagues see a very different professional.

ESPN analyst and contributor Mina Kimes, who recently appeared on Kylie’s Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast, offered some candid insights into how Kelce operates behind the scenes, highlighting traits that have impressed more than just viewers.

According to her, Kelce brings to broadcasting the same blend of commitment and genuine respect that defined his NFL career, minus the locker room bravado.

“People always ask me, ‘How can men help women?’ because there aren’t that many of us, particularly ones who do my job,” she said.

“I think your husband is an extremely great example of how you do that, which is just by being freaking normal, just engaging in, like, normal football conversations with me. And it is not about being, you know, a weird, performative ally.”

Kimes’ assessment contrasts sharply with Kylie’s earlier remarks about her husband’s off-air persona.

Kylie has described Kelce as a “whirlwind of energy” with a loud, boisterous personality who jokingly calls himself a “Neanderthal” in everyday life. She has suggested that his ability to multitask and stay organized sometimes depends on her support.

Yet on the Monday Night Football set, that purported chaos gives way to a respected voice and collaborator.

The broadcast booth vs. the podcast room

Kelce’s media résumé extends well beyond his Monday night appearances.

After retiring in March 2024, he quickly became a fixture on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown and also launched They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce, a talk show that blends football insight with entertainment elements.

In addition, he co-hosts the wildly popular New Heights podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, a show that has become a cultural phenomenon and regularly charts among the most downloaded sports podcasts.

In contrast to the tightly produced world of live televised football analysis, where every second is planned and timed, New Heights thrives on unscripted banter. Listeners have grown accustomed to hearing Kelce fielding toddler interruptions at home or cracking jokes midrecording.

One viral clip even captured him pausing a session to help his young daughter, who called out about a “bathroom emergency,” blending the chaotic and human elements of family life with his public persona.
