Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly sought help from Mike Tyson in an attempt to secure a presidential pardon, but the effort has not changed the course of his sentence.
The story traces back to comments Tyson made in a 2024 interview, when the former boxing champion was asked about Combs as his legal troubles were unfolding. At that point, Combs had not yet been convicted, even though prosecutors were pursuing racketeering charges.
Tyson’s response was brief and sympathetic. “I wish him the best. In life, I wish him the best.”
Since then, the situation has shifted dramatically. Combs was later convicted on prostitution-related charges and sentenced to fifty months in prison. Facing the reality of serving that time, he appears to have explored every possible avenue for relief, including a direct appeal to the White House.
According to a report from The Sun, Combs asked Tyson to personally deliver a handwritten letter to Donald Trump requesting a pardon. The outlet claimed Tyson passed along the letter during a visit to the White House in November, placing him in the unusual position of intermediary between the convicted music executive and the president.
Trump has since confirmed that the letter reached him. Speaking to The New York Times, he said Combs “asked me for a pardon,” adding that the request “came through a letter.”
Trump acknowledges the request but shuts the door
Despite confirming receipt of the letter, Trump has publicly stated that he has no intention of granting Combs a pardon. That stance appears to have ended the matter almost as soon as it became public, leaving little doubt about the outcome of the appeal.
The Sun also reported that Tyson was approached by one of Combs’ associates and asked to personally deliver the message. According to the outlet, Tyson “was feeling nervous about it,” but ultimately agreed to pass along the letter during his visit.
The detail suggests reluctance rather than enthusiasm, and a sense that Tyson viewed the task as a favour rather than a cause.
Tyson himself has not commented publicly on the report or confirmed that he delivered the letter. Meanwhile, the White House has not denied that the correspondence came through him, but it has offered no further clarification about any interaction beyond Trump’s brief remarks.
