Mike Tyson couldn’t believe that his past helped a young boxer so much to overcome his illness

They say that sport is life and in this story it could not be closer to reality. Children grow up with idols, people they admire and whose sporting careers can mark the entire growth of a person’s childhood. This was the case for boxer Jose Beltran, who cannot thank Mike Tyson enough for helping him in his toughest fight: the fight against cancer.

Mike Tyson is not only one of the best boxers in history, but also an example for thousands of fans who have seen him give his all in the ring. In this case, the 58-year-old athlete went to the state of Arizona to continue helping boys and girls who are looking to link their lives to sports and thus continue to promote a healthy life for new generations.

Tyson led a youth fitness program called the Boys & Girls Club, which encourages boys and girls to play sports, not competing against each other, but each seeking the best physical version of themselves. At the launch of the event, Mike Tyson and Jose Beltran, who as a minor had already participated in this project and said it saved his life.

His toughest fight

Jose Beltran was part of the Boys & Girls Club and eventually became a boxer, however, along the way he had several difficulties and one of them was a serious illness. The athlete was diagnosed with cancer and since then he aligned his life with good habits such as exercising and eating healthy.

“Junior”, as he is nicknamed in the boxing world, explained to the media present in Arizona that the sport helped him improve his health and also confessed to being a great admirer of Mike Tyson and that his figure also motivated him to continue on his path and to be able to emerge stronger from his fight against cancer.

“I knew then that I had to take control of my life. I knew that my diet, my habits… they were all bad. So I decided to change my life.”

Junior also commented that it is not only enough to play sports and eat healthy, but also to prioritize the mental part and emphasized that it is important to have control of what you want to achieve and not give up

Now, Jose Beltran mentors the youth who participate in the Boys & Girls Club and by sharing his story, he seeks to motivate boys and girls who want to play sports and helps them not to give up and always fight for their dreams no matter how difficult the road may be.

Mike Tyson, an example to many

For his part, legendary boxer Mike Tyson took the opportunity to talk to the youngsters and tell them how important it is to play sports. “Exercise is a form of medicine. It’s relaxing. It helps you psychologically, physically, spiritually. You have to keep moving if you want to live. That’s what life is all about.”

When asked how he managed to change his life, Tyson was precise: “I became world champion! Actually, it was just… repetition. Every day. Every day. Every day. The more we train, the better we get.”

The former champion motivated a whole generation and now hopes to do the same in a project that will last until June 1 and in which more than 44,000 young people who want to play sports are participating. The plan combines a variety of exercise routines and is very varied, which also entertains thousands of boys and girls who want to achieve their best version.
