Miami Dolphins’ rough start deepens as Hill’s viral image sparks trade talk

The Miami Dolphins remain winless to start the 2025-26 NFL season, falling 31-21 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 3. The defeat, Miami’s third in succession, highlighted familiar problems on offense and defense despite another strong contribution from wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill registered five receptions on 10 targets for 49 yards and a touchdown, leading the team in both categories. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 22 of 34 passes for 236 yards, adding two scores through the air but also throwing an interception that shifted momentum.

For much of the contest Miami matched Buffalo’s intensity, but turnovers and late-game execution again proved costly as the Bills closed the fourth quarter with authority.

A viral image and its aftermath

While the result placed further pressure on head coach Mike McDaniel’s side, the game also produced a moment that spread quickly beyond the field. During a timeout in the final quarter, Hill was photographed on the sideline appearing visibly frustrated as the Dolphins trailed by a touchdown.

The image circulated widely on social media, where it was interpreted as emblematic of the team’s struggles.

Supporters responded in force, with many suggesting the star receiver deserves an opportunity on a roster with stronger championship prospects. Some comments called for Hill’s return to the Kansas City Chiefs, citing his previous partnership with Patrick Mahomes.

“He wants to be a chief again so bad,” wrote one fan, while another said: “He wants a real quarterback.”

Others speculated about a potential role with the Atlanta Falcons alongside rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and receiver Drake London.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, faced renewed criticism from fans who questioned his ability to guide Miami out of its early-season slump. The interception in Thursday’s contest was his fourth of the campaign, continuing a trend of turnovers that have undermined otherwise promising stretches of play.

Production amid team struggles

Despite the surrounding narrative, Hill has remained consistent in performance. Through three games he has been Miami’s most reliable offensive weapon, producing steady yardage and scoring opportunities even as the team has failed to translate individual highlights into victories.

His presence on the field continues to demand attention from opposing defenses, yet lapses elsewhere have prevented the Dolphins from capitalizing.

The current 0-3 start has intensified questions about Miami’s overall trajectory. Expectations entering the season were high, particularly given the offensive talent assembled around Tagovailoa.

Instead, repeated errors in key situations have left the Dolphins at the bottom of the division. Injuries have not been the primary issue; rather, decision-making and execution have been at the forefront of the criticism.

Miami will attempt to halt its losing streak in Week 4 with a divisional matchup against the New York Jets at Hard Rock Stadium on September 29. The contest, scheduled for primetime, offers the Dolphins an opportunity to reset in front of their home crowd.

For Hill, the weeks ahead may determine whether speculation around his long-term future intensifies. While no trade discussions have been confirmed by the organization, the viral sideline image has fueled debate about whether the league’s most dynamic receiver is being underutilized on a team struggling to find direction.
