Miami Dolphins could fire head coach to pursue John Harbaugh

The shock of John Harbaugh’s exit from Baltimore is still settling, but across the NFL, attention has already shifted south. The Miami Dolphins are now firmly part of the conversation, not because they have made a move, but because the timing could force one. When a coach with Harbaugh’s résumésuddenly becomes available, even stable situations start to feel less secure.

After 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Harbaugh was dismissed in a decision that caught much of the league off guard. His track record speaks for itself: 180 regular-season wins, consistent playoff contention, and a Super Bowl title that helped define the Ravens’ modern identity. Coaches with that kind of longevity rarely hit the open market, especially without a clear decline attached.

Owner Steve Bisciotti made it clear the move was not personal. In his statement, Bisciotti emphasized the respect and gratitude the organization holds for Harbaugh, calling the decision “incredibly difficult.” Still, Baltimore believed it was time to reset the direction of the franchise. That choice immediately sent ripple effects through the rest of the league.

“I’m told that #Dolphins ownership has expressed an affinity for John Harbaugh recently, per league source… We’ll see if that appeal materializes into an opportunity, as the seat is not currently vacant. Harbaugh will have multiple conversations at his door step.

Miami’s stability suddenly feels less certain

Those ripples have reached the Miami Dolphins. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Miami is among the teams showing interest in Harbaugh. The Dolphins have not fired head coach Mike McDaniel, but league sources suggest ownership has a strong appreciation for Harbaugh’s leadership and experience.

That detail matters. McDaniel has overseen an explosive offense and multiple playoff appearances, yet the Dolphins have struggled to take the final step toward true championship contention. Harbaugh’s availability changes the equation. A proven Super Bowl-winning coach with nearly two decades of stability is not an option teams expect to evaluate in January.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reinforced that idea, reporting that Dolphins ownership has recently expressed an affinity for Harbaugh. While no vacancy exists at the moment, Anderson noted that Harbaugh is expected to have multiple opportunities waiting for him.

Miami is not alone. The New York Giants have also been linked to Harbaugh, with Adam Schefter reporting that he is expected to be a top target for New York. Still, the Dolphins angle stands out because it raises a bigger question: would a competitive team consider a drastic move simply to land a coach of Harbaugh’s stature?

That answer may define this offseason. Harbaugh’s exit has already reshaped the coaching market, and in Miami, the spotlight is now impossible to ignore.
