Mets face urgent decision to shore up rotation amid injuries to key pitchers

The alternatives satisfy no one in the New York Mets, and the solution to injuries in their pitching rotation when time is running out is to look outside, which is why the New York ninth could bring to their pitching staff a pitcher to shore up the structure that was left reeling this offseason and only has Kodai Senga, David Peterson and Clay Holmes as starters.

Injuries force Mets to make decisions

Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea left the Mets without a leg to stand on in the pitching department ahead of the start of the Major League Baseball season, and as if that wasn’t enough, the fracture of shortstop Nick Madrigal only accelerated a decision that could be seen as exaggerated, but which obeys the urgency to start the campaign with the least possible problems.

The Mets immediately turned to the Miami Marlins, the team for which 2022 Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Sandy Alcantara plays, a 29-year-old right-hander who seems ideal for the needs that need to be resolved in the New York lineup, and who is recovering from an injury.

The presence on the mound of the Dominican Alcantara could be an insurance policy for a Mets team that has worked hard this offseason to build a competitive team and that in the face of adverse circumstances in recent days does not intend to stand idly by

The Mets must sacrifice something to get Alcantara

The problem that comes with the solution is that in seeking a trade for Alcantara, the Mets are aware that they must part with several top 100 prospects to reach an agreement with the Marlins, who have him under contract until 2027.

The solution for the Mets could well come with a good deal despite the annoyance it entails, therefore, the greater benefit, and the fruits of this negotiation could begin to be seen immediately at the start of the season. It’s a matter of deciding and doing, and the sooner, the better.
