Mets face criticism for premature Juan Soto signing documentary: “Let’s win the World Series first”

A very popular saying goes that ‘You shouldn’t sell the bear’s skin before you hunt it’ and it seems that someone at the New York Mets doesn’t know it, as the more than positive, almost festive tone of a new documentary on their YouTube channel, would make it seem that the Queens team has already won the World Series and is about to become a dynasty thanks to just one person!

And no, nothing could be further from the truth, because although they have done a great job in the offseason with the retention of Pete Alonso and tremendous signings such as Juan Soto, the season has not yet begun and everything remains to be seen, not only with them, but with all the Major League teams, who have also done their part

An ‘untimely’ documentary

And the issue is precisely the Dominican who arrived from the Yankees for the whopping $765 million, as he is the protagonist of the aforementioned material entitled ‘The Pursuit’, which tells in two parts of his entire negotiation and recruitment process. This material will be seen exclusively on the team’s YouTube channel, and will premiere on March 14 and 21.

It is a fact that the Mets broke the market with the highest deal ever seen in U.S. sports, but many believe that the Queens team may have been hasty, just as they are today with the release of this material, when the player still has everything to prove in the season that has yet to begin.

That’s where the criticism of many goes, who, like Gio, the co-host of WFAN Sports Radio’s ‘Boomer and Gio’ podcast, think that nothing is proven and everything is yet to be written: “Let’s win a World Series and then we can have our docuseries about Juan Soto,” he said.

Many doubts and too many interviews

And the doubt is legitimate, because no one knows what will happen to Soto this season, whether he will perform, whether he will not measure up, whether he will get along with his teammates, whether he will have the absolute support of the fans, whether he will be injured or not, whether he will break beyond expectations. There are many questions that have no answer and that the Mets already take for granted with a documentary that to say the least is untimely.

The material includes interviews with Steve and Alex Cohen, manager Carlos Mendoza and president of baseball operations David Stearns, as well as Mets legends such as Mike Piazza, David Wright, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling, and Soto’s teammates such as Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo.
