Fresh off winning the club’s first-ever MLS Cup, Inter Miami has exercised the $15 million buyout clause for Argentine World Cup-winning midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. The 31-year-old, who was on loan from Atlético Madrid, is now permanently part of the Florida-based team.
Among the other moves made by the Herons, the departure of full-back Marcelo Weigandt stands out – he will return to Boca Juniors after his loan ended. The club is also still working to resolve the situation with Luis Suárez.
Rodrigo De Paul and Messi, inseparable
De Paul has signed with Inter Miami through the 2029 season. Starting in 2026, he will be able to occupy one of the Designated Player (DP) slots – the salary-cap-exempt designation – that will be freed up by the retirements of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, both of whom have decided to hang up their boots.
The Argentine midfielder joined Inter Miami after the Club World Cup, playing 20 matches in which he scored 2 goals, provided 7 assists, and lifted the MLS Cup.
Meanwhile, Luis Suárez‘s future remains uncertain amid rumors linking him to other clubs. We’ll have to wait and see whether the Uruguayan striker stays to continue playing alongside Messi or embarks on a new adventure elsewhere.
