Matthew McConaughey’s gentlemanly gesture toward Kate Middleton does not go unnoticed at Wimbledon

Matthew McConaughey may be known for his Oscar-winning performances, but it was his thoughtful act at Wimbledon 2025 that won him a new wave of admiration. The actor turned heads for his dignified recognition of the Prince and Princess of Wales during their appearance at the prestigious tennis tournament.

On Sunday, Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club alongside their two eldest children, 11-year-old Prince George and 10-year-old Princess Charlotte, to watch the men’s singles final between Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner.

As the royal family approached the Royal Box to take their seats, McConaughey, seated directly in front of them, immediately stood up and clapped, acknowledging their presence with a warm round of applause.

His courteous response didn’t go unnoticed by spectators and fans online. The moment quickly circulated across social media platforms, earning McConaughey praise for what many called a “class act.”

“Matthew McConaughey standing to applaud the Prince & Princess of Wales. What a lovely southern gentleman,” one admirer wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added simply: “Real class.”

Royal kids steal the spotlight as Kate stuns in back-to-back appearances

While the tennis match brought its share of drama, many eyes were on Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who made a surprise joint appearance with their parents. Both children were dressed for the occasion, with George donning a navy blue suit that mirrored his father’s attire and Charlotte choosing a crisp white dress that coordinated perfectly with her mother’s bright blue belted ensemble.

Middleton once again showed why she remains a fashion icon in the royal sphere. Her choice of a vibrant blue dress drew positive reactions across media and social platforms. But her appearance held more weight than just style-it marked her continued return to public life after announcing earlier this year that she was cancer-free.

In fact, the Wimbledon men’s final was her second appearance at the tournament in as many days. On Saturday, Kate watched the women’s singles final between Amanda Anisimova and Poland’s Iga Swiatek solo.

The Princess of Wales, who is known to be an avid tennis fan and patron of the All England Club, has long considered Wimbledon one of her favorite events. Her ongoing participation, even amid personal health challenges, has further endeared her to the public.
