Manny Pacquiao does not rule out a fight with Gervonta Davis if he beats Mario Barrios in his boxing return

The legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao, known for being the only eight-division world champion, is preparing for a highly anticipated return that has generated great excitement among fans and experts alike. At 46 years of age and after almost four years out of competition, Pacquiao faces a new challenge when he faces current WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, who is 16 years his junior.

At a press conference in Las Vegas, Pacquiao expressed his gratitude and excitement for this new opportunity to get back into action, but also acknowledged the difficulties involved in his comeback.

Although his track record and trajectory place him as a living legend, the former champion knows that this stage is different. “Boxing is my passion. I’m excited to be here, and I thank God for having good health and being able to fight again,” Pacquiao said in his first official statements.

However, questions about what will come after his fight with Barrios remain, especially with possible young opponents such as Rolando Romero, Ryan Garcia or Gervonta Davis on the horizon.

Pacquiao: “One fight at a time” and no rush to define future

When asked about possible future clashes with the likes of Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney or Gervonta Davis, Pacquiao responded with prudence and serenity. “One at a time,” he said with a smile, avoiding to anticipate plans and making it clear that his main focus is the immediate fight against Barrios. “We’ll see after this fight. I can’t say what will happen, but first we have to win this fight,” he added, showing his focused and patient mentality.

This approach reflects the reality facing Pacquiao, a boxing veteran aware that his glory days are not the same, but who maintains the determination to compete at the highest level. His return generates excitement, but also a debate about the suitability of facing high-level young prospects. In this regard, the Filipino has been clear: “Gervonta Davis is a good fighter. If he goes up to 147 pounds, maybe we can fight at 145. I’m not worried,” he said in previous interviews, leaving the door open for a possible fight if the conditions are right.

Is a clash between Pacquiao and the new generations viable?

Despite Pacquiao’s willingness to continue facing challenges, experts and fans question whether a fight with figures such as Davis or Ryan Garcia would be wise or necessary. With an age difference of more than a decade and uncertainty about his performance after years of inactivity, the viability of such matchups is debatable. In addition, Pacquiao’s possible continuation or retirement will largely depend on the outcome of his comeback against Barrios.

Renowned analyst Chris Mannix sums up the current scenario well: “If Barrios wins, Pacquiao is unlikely to fight anyone else again; if Pacquiao wins, he might consider his future, but nothing is guaranteed”. For now, the focus is on Pacquiao putting on a good fight and then evaluating his options.
