Luka Doncic will shatter a LeBron James stat with the Lakers sooner than expected

All-Star shooter Luka Doncic is having an MVP season with the Los Angeles Lakers, leading the way to something close to dominance in the Western Conference.

In the last week, the Slovenian guard has averaged 35 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game, a stellar production.

Even though superstar LeBron James returned to the lineup, it’s Doncic who’s carrying the offense for the Purple and Gold, so we can cleary see why the franchise decided to invest their money on Luka, with the hope of building a team that will be competitive in the playoffs.

Luka Doncic will shatter a LeBron James stat

Earlier this week, Luka Doncic scored 43 points against the Los Angeles Clippers in a 135-118 win at Crypto.com Arena. Those numbers put him on the 10th spot of the Lakers with the most 40-points games. The Slovenian now has seven of those games with the Purple and Gold.

The only active Laker who’s ahead of Luka is LeBron, who has had 18 40-pts games with Los Angeles. However, at the current pace, Doncic will be able to break that with ease. The superstar’s goal might be even higher: none other than the legendary players Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor and Kobe Bryant.

Shaq had 26 40-pts games. West, 66. Baylor is second all-time with 88. And then there’s the Black Mamba: a total of 122 games with 40 points or more. It’s too early to say, but we can guess that if somebody can match that record, it’s Luka Doncic.

Luka is leading the way for NBA Cup MVP

Luka has been absolutely sensational in the NBA Cup, and he’s the clear leader of the MVP race. He wrapped up a consistently solid string of Group Play games with 35 points and 11 assists against the Dallas Mavericks, of all teams, in a revenge game against his former team.

“When you look at Luka and the way he’s playing, he’s one of the best players in the world. If you show one pitch and show it too many times, he’s going to be able to take advantage of that … he’s seen everything. He’s playing the game at a very high level,” Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said about his former player.

If he continues to play the way he has in the last couple of games, there’s no doubt that Luka Doncic will be the NBA Cup MVP… and then he will definitely aim at the regular season prize.
