It has been a busy week in the offices of Inter Miami as they plan for next season with a view to retaining the MLS title. Earlier this week, the arrival of Sergio Reguilon was confirmed, as well as the purchase of Rodrigo De Paul. Now, the club has announced the continuity of Luis Suarez until December 2026.
After Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets announced their retirement, the immediate future of Luis Suarez remained up in the air. His contract was due to expire in less than two weeks – on December 31, 2026 – and his name had even been linked with a return to Uruguay. Despite losing prominence at the end of the season, coming off the bench against Cincinnati (quarter-finals) and New York City (semi-finals) after serving a suspension in the second leg against Nashville (last 16), as well as not playing in the final against Vancouver, Luis Suarez‘s role has been fundamental in the successful campaign that Inter Miami has completed.
A little over a month away from his 39th birthday, Luis Suarez has started 47 of the 50 matches he has played for Inter Miami this season, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists. Only Leo Messi, with 43 goals and 26 assists, has generated more goals for Inter Miami throughout this last season.
In recent days, there had been speculation about Timo Werner arriving at the Chase Stadium. However, Luis Suarez’s renewal for another season should close the door on the German striker, who is still strongly linked with a move to MLS. From Germany, it is suggested that it is now San Jose Earthquakes who are leading the race.
