Dominican pitcher Luis Severino has received one of the best news of his career in MLB. This was stated to the public when he was notified by the management of the Oakland Athletics that he will be the starting pitcher for Opening Day on March 27 when they face the Seattle Mariners.

The notice was delivered directly by manager Mark Kotzay: “Sevy will take the mound for us on the 27th in Seattle.” It should be remembered that Luis Severino has joined the Athletics franchise and was a player in high demand by the Oakland management. “He’s going to have an impact on and off the field. We’re very excited about that,” the manager added, according to MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos.

Luis Severino’s contract with the Oakland Athletics

The Dominican received the largest contract in franchise history during the past offseason and will now be one of the main pieces of their rotation. The agreement between the two parties is for three years and $67 million, after having participated last season with the New York Mets.

For Luis Severino, this designation has been taken as an honor as in his long professional career it will be only his second Opening Day game. The Dominican has shown gratitude for the opportunity and sees it as a recognition of the work he has been achieving since last season.

Luis Severino’s MLB career

Luis Severino began his professional baseball career in Major League Baseball in 2015 when he signed with the New York Mets and after nine years with the metropolitan team decided to take a step to the West Coast to join the Oakland Athletics

Prior to his 10th MLB season,Luis Severino has appeared in 172 games where he has won 65 games and lost 44 with a 3.81 ERA. He has struck out a total of 949 batters and has only allowed 120 home runs in 909.1 innings pitched.
