Lions’ $42M All-Pro open to moving from Eagles to Detroit

A familiar face could be an option for the Detroit Lions as they try to sort out their cornerback problems this offseason.

The team could have a big need at the position now that Carlton Davis is heading to free agency.

If he leaves, the team may have to rely heavily on the two cornerbacks they selected last season.

However, it appears that a player they drafted more than 10 years ago is open to helping them solve that problem.

A saving solution for the Lions

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay is seen as a potential candidate to be cut this offseason as he heads into the final year of a $42 million contract.

If that happened, it seems the Lions would be his first choice for his next team.

During an appearance on “The St. Brown Podcast” on February 19, Slay said he definitely wants to play one more season in the NFL and wants it to be with either the Eagles or the Lions.

Slay said: “Definitely the two places I would love to be are always Philly or Detroit.”

Slay had a great run with the Lions after being selected 36th overall in the 2013 draft.

During seven seasons with the team, he earned a place in the Pro Bowl three times and an All-Pro nomination. He also tied for the league lead in interceptions once.

During that time, he accumulated 104 passes defensed, 19 interceptions and 347 total tackles.

The Eagles were his great choice

He spent the last five seasons with the Eagles and was a solid piece of their championship roster last season.

In his 12th NFL season, Slay held opposing quarterbacks to a 54.7% completion percentage and 6.1 yards per pass attempt when throwing in his direction.

At 34 years old, there will surely be concerns that Slay is heading for a decline, but he could be a solid piece for a Lions cornerback room that has some big question marks right now.

They would still need to make a bigger move at the position if they want to take their defense to the next level, but a six-time Pro Bowler who just helped a team win the Super Bowl seems like a good option for the Lions.
