The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching. The official draw took place last week, placing all known teams into specific groups. While there isn’t a general consensus on which one is the “Group of Death“, most believe France, Norway, Senegal and one of Bolivia/Suriname/Iraq being pitted together could be the strongest group.

On the other side of the coin, many believe Argentina, the defending champions, got one of the easiest groups possible. They will open their tournament against Algeria, followed by Austria and Jordan. In the knockout stages is where things could get tricky for Lionel Messi and his team, but we’re a long way from that. With the idea of rounding into form ahead of the tournament, a friendly against one of the previously mentioned World Cup squads is being floated around as a possibility.

Argentina vs. Senegal friendly being finalized for March 2026

According to the Senegalese Football Federation, they have received a proposition from Argentina for a friendly match in March. Saudi Arabia is also trying to organize a friendly with Senegal, but Argentina would likely take priority.

The idea of a match against Senegal is good news for Argentina, given that they need strong competition in order to prepare for the World Cup. There are no other matches for them scheduled until March, with the Finalissima against Spain not being confirmed as of yet. This would apparently be an additional match and not replace the Finalissima, but the situation is fluid as of now.
