Lexie Hull eyes future with Fever as free agency looms

The Indiana Fever’s dream run ended one step short of the WNBA Finals. After a gritty overtime Game 5 against the Las Vegas Aces, the Fever walked away with heartbreak, but also with the kind of promise that hasn’t been felt in Indianapolis in years.

That promise now comes with questions. One of the biggest centers around guard Lexie Hull, who will enter restricted free agency for the first time in her career.

Hull, drafted by Indiana in 2022, didn’t hide her feelings about where she hopes to be when next season tips off. “I’ve built a life here, and I love this franchise,” Hull told IndyStar’s Chloe Peterson. “I love the people, I love the fans, so we’ll see what comes.”

Hull Steps Into Bigger Role

Hull’s third year was her strongest. She averaged 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, while also earning a reputation as one of the Fever’s toughest defenders. Her ability to hit threes in key moments made her a reliable spark, especially as injuries and foul trouble hit Indiana during the postseason.

She delivered in Game 5 when Kelsey Mitchell left with an injury and Aliyah Boston fouled out late in regulation. Hull didn’t shy away from the moment, recalling the huddle before overtime. “Steph [Talbot] said, ‘We’re built for this moment,'” Hull shared. “It’s unlucky how it ended, but I’m proud of how we fought.”

Restricted free agency gives the Fever an advantage-they can match any contract offer from another team. That doesn’t mean the process will be smooth. Teams in search of perimeter defense and shooting could make aggressive bids.

For Indiana, the stakes are high. Retaining Hull would solidify a core with Boston, Mitchell, and veteran leadership around them. The Fever showed they can hang with champions; keeping Hull could help them take the next step.

Hull, for her part, sounds ready to stay. The only question now is whether Indiana will ensure she never has to leave.
