The match against D.C. United was played at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium and no fewer than 72,026 people turned up, a record number that demonstrates what Lionel Messi is capable of generating so that fans from all over the world want to go and watch him play.

The last time D.C. United had so many people in the stadium was when they won the MLS Cup in 1997. On that occasion there were 57,000 spectators, which shows that Messi is capable of attracting more people than a title decider.

Although the home team did not win the match, the fans were not at all upset, as they were able to see Messi and the Inter Miami stars live, something that has an impact throughout MLS and shows that Beckham’s team was not wrong with the signing.
