LeBron James is furious with Rui Hachimura for what he did in the game against the Rockets

The matchup on Monday night, March 16, 2026, between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets carried much more than just a win at stake. The standings in the Western Conference continue to tighten, with both teams fighting for positioning.

That is why every possession must be contested with maximum intensity, ensuring that no ball is conceded without a fight. Both the Los Angeles squad and Houston needed to remain fully focused to be capable of competing at the highest level throughout the game.

As is often the case with LeBron James, each contest becomes an opportunity to demand the same level of commitment from his teammates. No one is allowed to relax or permit opponents to take the ball away in an easy manner.

That is precisely why James became visibly upset with one of his teammates when he failed to attack a rebound with full energy against a Rockets player. His frustration was evident when he was unable to secure the ball.

LeBron James explodes at teammate

The incident occurred during the third quarter, with 2:50 remaining on the clock and the Lakers holding a one-point lead over the Rockets. Houston forward Jabari Smith Jr. missed a three-point attempt from the corner.

The rebound appeared to be well within reach for Rui Hachimura, who was battling Amen Thompson for position. Securing it would have halted the opponent’s momentum, but events did not unfold as LeBron had anticipated.

Naturally, this triggered a strong reaction from the ‘King.’ He also committed a foul that could have been avoided. As he made his way toward the bench, he was seen angrily confronting Hachimura, who seemed confused by the intensity of the criticism directed at him.

Defensive play has been an ongoing concern for the Japanese forward, who has yet to find the right balance between offense and defense to significantly elevate his performance on the court. While he tends to be consistent in terms of field goal shooting, his shortcomings on the defensive end remain noticeable.

This issue has not gone unnoticed by fans of the purple and gold, who are quick to point out any lapse from the forward, emphasizing that he has not made substantial progress in this area.

Defense continues to raise questions for the Lakers

The Lakers have managed to regain ground in the Western Conference standings. They currently sit in third place, with their direct rival, the Houston Rockets, occupying the fourth spot.

However, persistent defensive lapses prevent the team from fully establishing itself as a serious championship contender. There is still considerable work ahead for JJ Redick, who must ensure his squad becomes competitive both with and without the ball.
