LeBron James fires back at Kevin Hart over golf challenge: ‘I’m going to kick his ass’

LeBron James and Kevin Hart have a long history of playful public banter-but their latest exchange has taken their friendly rivalry to a new level. This time, it’s golf that has them talking, and the challenge is very real.

The comedian surprised fans by posting a loud and proud message on Instagram, publicly daring James to a golf match next year.

“@kingjames … I am publicly challenging you to 18 holes in a year …. Next Sept on the 17th …. I’m going to let the world see me kick yo a-!!!!!!” Hart wrote, sprinkling in his usual humor. He even announced he’s making sleeveless golf shirts part of his brand: “Suns out guns out B–!!!!!!!”

The post quickly gained attention, including from James himself, who fired back via his Instagram Story.

Not only did he accept the challenge, but he also amped up the drama. “It’s going to be a movie,” he wrote. Then, without holding back: “I’m going to kick his ass!!!”

Friendly fire or something more?

While the banter seems lighthearted, both men appear genuinely invested in the competition. Hart has only recently taken up golf, reportedly diving into the sport in August 2025, while James has been quietly improving his skills.

He recently told GQ, “I feel like I’m getting better, but more importantly, I just love the challenge, man. It’s so uncomfortable.”

That mindset may be why James also questioned the long wait. “Why we gotta wait a whole year?? We can get to it now!!” he said in another post, suggesting he’s ready whenever Hart is.

Adding another layer, Stephen Curry-a known golf enthusiast and former on-court rival of James-commented on his surprise at how quickly James has taken to the game.

“He’s obsessed with it,” Curry said in a Sky Sports interview. “We’ll definitely get out and play.”

With the Lakers and Warriors set to face off in their season opener on October 21, the timing couldn’t be better for this basketball-meets-golf narrative to unfold.

Whether their match happens next September or much sooner, fans can expect entertainment, intensity, and plenty of laughs.
