However, some issues go beyond purely sporting matters. This appears to be the case with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. James is expected to become one of the most coveted players across the entire NBA.
Because of this situation, several executives assure that his return to the Los Angeles lineup looks highly complicated. Therefore, the player, currently in his 23rd season, might want to finish it as a champion.
The possible departure of LeBron James from the Lakers
This past Monday, March 23, 2026, Sam Amick of The Athletic spoke about LeBron’s potential exit from the Lakers.
As recently as late January, not long after an ESPN report detailed so much of the dysfunction in James’ relationship with the Lakers organization, the widely-held consensus around the league was that there’s no way he’d be back in a Lakers jersey. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors were, and are, often mentioned by league executives as his most likely destinations.
There is also a speculative situation that suggested Los Angeles was better off without the player than with him. However, based on what has been seen recently with the team’s resurgence, things appear to have changed.
The Lakers have managed a winning streak of nine games in ten played, which currently places them in third position in the Western Conference. And LeBron has been a key piece for his franchise.

Could LeBron James join Stephen Curry?
The Golden State Warriors are in pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, something that frankly seems very complicated. What does not seem as unlikely is the possible arrival of James to the Bay Area team.
They have been pursuing him for a long time. In 2024, they made major efforts to acquire him, but the deal could not be completed. A potential union between LeBron and Curry would be spectacular.
Together, they won the gold medal in Paris 2024, so there is a very good relationship between them. Now it will only be a matter of waiting to see whether the move materializes, one that would give significant momentum to the Warriors heading into next season.
