Las Vegas Raiders activate a new quarterback after Geno Smith’s poor performance

Geno Smith has been largely ineffective for the Las Vegas Raiders, so the Nevada franchise has already activated one of its quarterbacks who was previously injured. Now they’ll have more options on the bench to try out different players one by one, much like the Cleveland Browns did in 2025. Head coach Pete Carroll knows very well that despite some support, the current QB isn’t delivering results and could be fired at any moment.

Las Vegas extended its losing streak in the 2025 NFL season with a fourth consecutive loss, falling 33-16 to the Dallas Cowboys on November 17 at Allegiant Stadium. Furthermore, the running game was especially disappointing. Ashton Jeanty carried the ball six times for only seven yards, while the team totaled just 27 rushing yards. It’s a shame what’s happening with the Raiders.

Raiders activate Aidan O’Connell, who has started 17 games in his first 2 seasons, throwing for 3,830 yards with 20 TD’s

Las Vegas Raiders (2-8) have activated quarterback Aidan O’Connell from injured reserve, providing a much-needed boost to the team’s struggling offense, they announced Wednesday. The 27-year-old suffered a fractured right wrist during the final preseason game on August 23 and had been sidelined for more than two months. The activation comes as Las Vegas navigates a disappointing season under quarterback Smith.

A fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Purdue, O’Connell has started 17 games in his first two seasons, throwing for 3,830 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, completing 62.6% of his passes. The Raiders went 7-10 in games started by O’Connell, compared to their current 2-8 record with Smith as the starter this season.

Shedeur Sanders will start for the Browns against the Raiders in Week 12 of the NFL season

In Week 12, Shedeur Sanders will make his first start for the Browns against the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday. Sanders replaced fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel after the latter suffered a concussion during the team’s Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

With Gabriel in the league’s concussion protocol, Sanders will become the Browns’ third starting quarterback this season, following Joe Flacco and Gabriel. The rookie will participate in full-team practices this week for the first time. “I think you always try to do that with all your guys to make sure they feel comfortable, and with Shedeur it’s no different,” Stefanski said Wednesday.
