Few will be able to criticize the great match played by the FC Barcelona players in the return leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals, where they were ultimately eliminated by Atlético Madrid. We could even say that Lamine Yamal was one of the best performers, proving once again why he is considered one of the most exciting talents in world football.

In the end, the effort and brilliance weren’t enough to prevent the team’s downfall, despite insisting all week that they could overturn the 4-0 deficit from the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal.

Lamine Yamal’s reaction to the elimination

Now, Lamine Yamal has spoken for the first time since the painful Copa del Rey exit, joining the messages of gratitude directed at the Barcelona fans.

The 18-year-old Barcelona star shared his thoughts through his social media accounts:

“Thank you for last night, culers. We still have many things to be excited about. ¡Visca el Barça sempre!” the player wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of the Spotify Camp Nou.

The young Barcelona No. 10‘s message reflects the general sentiment inside the Blaugrana dressing room. Several Barcelona players also spoke out on social media, highlighting their pride in the team’s effort and commitment, despite failing to reach the Copa del Rey final.

Barcelona returned to training, but they still have several absences that have forced Hansi Flick to turn to La Masia youth academy players. This March, the LaLiga leaders will try to maintain their position at the top of the LaLiga table while also fighting for survival in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
