Kevin Stefanski confirms Shedeur Sanders as third-string QB: Browns’ quarterback drama unfolds

Shedeur Sanders‘ journey with theCleveland Browns has taken an unexpected turn.

Once hailed as a promising prospect, the rookie quarterback’s recent preseason performance has cast doubt on his immediate role with the team.

In the Browns‘ preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams, Sanders entered the game in the third quarter, following veteran Joe Flacco‘s efficient outing and Dillon Gabriel‘s steady play.

What transpired was a challenging stretch that underscored the steep learning curve facing the rookie.

Over nearly a half of play, Sanders completed just three of six passes for 14 yards and was sacked five times.

His first four drives failed to produce a single first down, highlighting the difficulties of transitioning from college to the NFL.

Coaching perspective

Kevin Stefanski responded to Sander‘s preseason performace by positioning him as third QB, after Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco.

This decision places Sanders in a position to observe and learn, awaiting an opportunity to prove himself.

Stefanski‘s choice underscores the team’s commitment to developing Sanders, despite the challenges he faced during the preseason.

Internal competition intensifies

The quarterback competition within the Browns‘ roster remains fierce. Veteran Joe Flacco is set to start, with Dillon Gabriel positioned as the backup.

Sanders, now third on the depth chart, faces an uphill battle to climb higher.

Veteran Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot emphasized the nature of competition in the NFL, stating, “Competition always brings out the best in everyone. No matter where you’re at in the NFL, there’s always going to be someone pressing you.

“These guys should get used to that, because that’s the name of the game. There’s always someone right behind you, ready to take your job-that’s just the tension of the NFL.”

As the season progresses, Sanders‘ ability to adapt and improve will be crucial.

The Browns‘ coaching staff remains invested in his development, but the path forward will require significant growth and consistency.

For now, Sanders remains on the roster, with the opportunity to learn and prepare for future challenges.

The coming weeks will determine whether he can overcome the early setbacks and fulfill the potential that once made him a promising prospect for the Cleveland Browns.

Gilbert Arenas speaks out against the conspiracy against Sanders

Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas stirred controversy with his bold assessment of the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation.

Speaking on his podcast, The Arena, Arenas suggested that rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders may be facing a system stacked against him.

“It’s built for him to fail because if he ends up winning the starting position, it tells you that their third round quarterback pick was a stupid pick,” Arenas said.

He went further, directly criticizing the team’s hierarchy: “If he does perform well at some point in time, we can put him in. But they do not want him to be in front of Dillon, because then that means they were wrong here.”
