Kay Adams’ brazen stealing from Ty Simpson ahead of Draft causes storm: “Hands bigger than Kenny Pickett’s”

What began as a lighthearted social media image quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of NFL Draft week, as Kay Adams‘ interaction with Ty Simpson took off online just hours before his unexpected first-round selection.

Adams shared a short video on X of herself jokingly stealing French fries from Simpson during a promotional appearance. Within hours, the post racked up millions of views, with fans flooding the replies and turning the moment into a viral talking point.

The reactions ranged from playful to over-the-top, with one fan joking, “Using that long arm length!” while another added, “How did Ty Simpson not fold instantly? He’s a better man than me.”

Others focused on the visual of the photo itself, with one comment reading, “Your arm looks 8 feet long. It’s a disturbing image.” Another said: “Bigger hands than Kenny Pickett.”

Some leaned into the humor of the situation, with a fan writing, “It’s crazy you’re like 20 years older than him but look the same age,” while another referenced wider NFL discourse by joking, “Dianna Russini walked so Kay Adams could run.”

Rams shock the draft with unexpected pick

By the end of the night, Simpson‘s name was called far earlier than many expected. The Los Angeles Rams selected him with the No. 13 overall pick, a move that surprised analysts who had projected him outside the first round.

Simpson, who threw for 3,567 yards in his only season as Alabama‘s starter, reacted with gratitude after hearing his name called. “The fact that an organization like the Los Angeles Rams believed in me and took a chance on me is just something that I’m so grateful for,” he said.

Head coach Sean McVay was quick to clarify the team’s immediate plans at quarterback. “Let’s make one thing clear: This is Matthew‘s team,” McVay said, reinforcing that veteran Matthew Stafford remains firmly in place as the starter.

General manager Les Snead pointed to Simpson‘s resilience as a key reason behind the selection, highlighting his journey from backing up Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe to leading Alabama deep into the postseason. The move signals a long-term investment rather than a short-term solution.

The timing of Adams‘ viral post added an unexpected layer to Simpson‘s draft story. While the video had no bearing on his selection, it amplified the attention surrounding him at a crucial moment in his career.

In today’s NFL landscape, prospects are introduced to a global audience long before they take a snap, and moments like this can shape perception in real time. What might once have been a throwaway interaction instead became part of Simpson‘s draft narrative.

What comes next for Simpson in Los Angeles

Simpson now joins a Rams team that can afford patience. With Stafford still leading the offense, the rookie will likely begin his career developing behind an experienced starter while competing with Stetson Bennett for the backup role.

The selection also reflects the Rams‘ broader strategy under McVay and Snead, prioritizing long-term stability at quarterback while remaining competitive in the present. For Simpson, the journey from viral pre-draft moment to first-round pick happened in a matter of hours.

Whether he ultimately becomes the Rams‘ future starter remains to be seen, but his introduction to the league has already ensured he will be one of the most closely watched rookies in this class.
