Kai Trump, the eldest granddaughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, recently celebrated her 18th birthday in New York City.

The occasion was marked by a lively celebration with friends, which she documented through a series of TikTok videos. One particular video, captioned “last day being 17,” quickly went viral, amassing over 1.2 million views within 15 hours.

In the clip, Kai and her friends lip-synced to Nelly Furtado’s song “Promiscuous,” all dressed in coordinated black outfits. While many of her followers praised the video and wished her well, it also sparked significant backlash, with some observers questioning whether the content was appropriate for someone who had just turned 18.

“Cringe. Kai don’t sink to the levels of your peers. This is not giving the impression you think it is. Highly suggestive posting this song with an announcement of your turn of age,” wrote one user online.

“You have so much ahead of you! Don’t let the world turn you in to average. Happy Birthday though,” wrote another.

A third wrote: “They are kids trying to act cool. They all look very weird and stiff. It’s like they would like to move and dance to this song, but they don’t know how to. It is embarrassing. Kai shouldn’t be doing this. She belongs to a different class of women. This is not suitable for her.”

A glimpse into Kai Trump’s life

Kai Madison Trump was born on May 12, 2007, in New York City. She is the first child of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Haydon, and the first grandchild of Donald Trump. Kai is known for her passion for golf and has played for The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens.

She won the 2022 Women’s Club Championship and the 2024 Ladies Club Championship at Trump International Palm Beach. In August 2024, she verbally committed to attend the University of Miami to play collegiate golf as a member of the 2026 signing class.

As of February 2025, Trump reportedly had a name, image, and likeness valuation of $1.2 million, with sponsors including Callaway Golf Company and TaylorMade Golf.

Kai’s rise to fame has been accompanied by increased public scrutiny. Her social media presence has grown significantly, with millions of followers across platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Her content, which includes vlogs about her daily life and golf activities, offers a glimpse into another side of the Trump family.

However, her online presence has also attracted criticism, particularly when her posts are perceived as crossing personal boundaries or being overly provocative. This has led to debates about the appropriateness of her content and the expectations placed on the children of public figures.

Navigating public life

As Kai continues to navigate her public life, she remains a figure of interest and discussion. Her recent viral TikTok video serves as a reminder of the complexities faced by young individuals in the public eye.

While she enjoys the support of many followers, the mixed reactions to her birthday video highlight the challenges of balancing personal expression with public expectations. As she steps into adulthood, Kai Trump’s journey will likely continue to spark conversations about privacy, public scrutiny, and the evolving role of social media in shaping public perceptions.
