The countdown to one of the most high-profile fights of the year is on. On Saturday, June 28, former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will take on influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, in a 10-round cruiserweight bout. However, beyond the hype and expectation, the Mexican has already issued a warning.

In statements shared by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the company organizing the event together with Golden Boy Promotions, Chavez Jr. did not hold back in sending a direct message to Paul and his team.

I want to thank MVP for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their Problem Child, they’re going to have a big problem this June, one they won’t know how to solve. I hope that when I beat him, people don’t underestimate this victory

Chavez Jr. made it clear that his goal goes beyond the result. He is looking for respect. “I hope they don’t minimize what it will mean to beat Jake Paul. He’s not just an influencer. He’s a fighter who comes from beating Mike Tyson, even if he’s not at his best anymore,” he added.

Confident in his abilities and preparation, Chavez Jr. not only sees this fight as a triumphant return to the boxing spotlight, but as an opportunity to put an end to the social media phenomenon that is Jake Paul. The son of the legend has been clear: on June 28 he intends to put “The Problem Child” in his place.

“Jake Paul doesn’t know how to box. I’m not a YouTuber or a UFC fighter beating up old retirees. I’m a real former world champion and on June 28 I’m going to teach him what Mexican style is,” Chavez Jr. said on social media.

How does Chavez Jr. get to the fight against Jake Paul?

The 39-year-old from Sinaloa is coming off a victory in 2024 against Uriah Hall, a fight that marked his return to professional boxing. After years of ups and downs, the fighter says he feels physically and mentally renewed. “I feel ten years younger,” he told the media, convinced that this will be the turning point to get back on the path that once took him to the top of the World Boxing Council.

For his part, 28-year-old Jake Paul has not stopped heating up the preview with his usual provocative statements. The self-styled “El Gallo de Dorado” said he feels with the heart of a true Mexican warrior and that his intention is clear: to knock out Chavez Jr. and prove that he is ready for the big stage.
