Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s lawyer denounces what is behind the boxer’s arrest

For the current Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the detention of foreigners residing in the United States is due to crimes committed inside or outside its borders or because of an irregular stay in the country due to expired visas or illegal entry into U.S. territory, where social and economic status is indifferent in each of its raids, as was the case with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of the Mexican boxing legend.

The Chavez family’s lawyer has dismissed the actions of the US authorities against the former 160-pound champion as an attempt to grab headlines where the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed that, after multiple fraudulent statements in his application for legal permanent residence, it was determined that the Mexican boxer was in the country illegally and that his deportation was scheduled for June 27, 2025, although his fight against Jake Paul was held the following day in Anaheim, California.

ICE uses Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to terrorize the Latino community

According to that timeline, Chavez Jr. was labeled a criminal where federal authorities also insisted on his affiliation with the Sinaloa Cartel, a drug trafficking criminal organization identified by US President Donald Trump as a foreign terrorist organization. “The current allegations are outrageous and simply another headline to terrorize the community,” Chavez’s attorney Michael Goldstein told The Associated Press.

The DHS claimed that Chavez Jr has an outstanding arrest warrant in Mexico for his alleged involvement in organized crime and trafficking in firearms, ammunition and explosives. He will also appear in court on Monday on a separate charge of possession of firearms from 2024. The DHS report detailed that ICE identified Chavez as a serious threat to public safety.

President Joe Biden reportedly granted parole to Chavez Jr

The Biden administration allowed Junior to re-enter the United States on January 4 and granted him parole into the country at the San Ysidro border crossing so that he could train in Southern California for his fight against the YouTuber. However, because of the multiple fraudulent statements on his application for legal permanent residency, he was determined to be in the country illegally and was allowed to be deported on June 27, although he was not detained until July 3, just as he received his $750,000 check for his fight against Jake Paul.

Now, the son of the “Cesar of Boxing” fights for his freedom where on Monday, July 7, the date of his deportation will be determined (which can be immediate) and he will be brought before the authorities in Mexico so that he can declare his situation under the charges of criminal participation with the Sinaloa Cartel under the activities of distribution of weapons, ammunition and explosives.
