Julio Cesar Chavez, an icon of Mexican boxing, has broken his silence on the delicate legal situation facing his son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who was recently detained by immigration authorities in the United States. In the midst of the uncertainty, the legendary former champion assured that he has full confidence in his son’s innocence

During a meeting with the media at Mexico City International Airport, Chavez was approached by reporters and, visibly upset, shared that his son is confused and emotionally affected:

Julio is in shock. He doesn’t understand, he tells me: ‘How do they accuse me of all this, dad?

Chavez Jr. and his legal situation with ICE

The detention of the former boxer by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) surprised public opinion. According to official documents, Chavez Jr. faces an arrest warrant in Mexico for alleged involvement in activities related to organized crime, including arms trafficking, ammunition and explosives.

According to US authorities, the son of the “Great Mexican Champion” allegedly applied for permanent residency in the United States fraudulently, which opened the door for his detention. The Department of Homeland Security indicated that the paperwork contained “multiple fraudulent statements”, which calls into question the legality of his stay in the country.

Chavez Jr. is accused of being linked to the Sinaloa Cartel

One of the most serious accusations comes from an alleged connection to the Sinaloa Cartel. Authorities argue that his wife, a US citizen, allegedly had a previous relationship with the deceased son of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, leader of the cartel. This would have raised suspicions about the true intention of his immigration application

Despite the scandal, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was emphatic that his son has a clear conscience and remains hopeful that everything will be resolved soon:

I’m calm because my son is innocent, but until everything is proven, it won’t be fixed
