The rivalry between the New York teams has spanned generations, but the friendship between former teammates is not destroyed by the glorious “Subway Series”. Last weekend the New York Yankees hosted the New York Mets, where the Bronx Bombers won the series 2-1. However, on the field there was a tremendous reunion between Juan Soto and Aaron Judge.
It should be remembered that until last season the Dominican ballplayer defended the Yankees’ jersey, but a lucrative contract earlier this year led him to take the subway and move in with the neighborhood rival to wear the Mets’ uniform for the current campaign.
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, a friendship that remains in the Big Apple
Although they are now rivals, all eyes were on one of the most anticipated reunions in MLB. Aaron Judge went to greet his former teammate Juan Soto and they greeted each other without any problems. The friendship goes beyond the colors and designs of the uniforms.
In the first games, they kept their distance. Of course, it was evident that the speculation would begin from the start and Yankees fans welcomed him with “natural” behavior towards the visitor who abandoned them to join the ranks of the enemy. The boos were not long in coming and every time he came to the batter’s box, he was greeted with a singular boo.
Judge’s memories – Soto sharing the outfield at Yankee Stadium
There were several games where Aaron Judge shared the field with Juan Soto. Some imagined that they would turn their backs on each other, but these negative rumors had another perspective. As soon as they approached, the old New York duo hugged and shared a conversation in front of the eyes of thousands of fans who gathered at the Bronx stadium.
“
We just greeted each other. We hadn’t seen each other throughout the Series. I just told him that I wish him the best and things like that. He (Juan Soto) replied that I was the best of the game. Things like this will continue to happen, but you have to focus on the games
Aaron Judge
It was a unique moment, where baseball fans could feel a moment of nostalgia and enjoy the last game of this first series of brothers. The Yankees managed to take two of three games to win the series, but the Mets will be looking forward to the rematch in the coming months.
