Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman undercard: Who is fighting on the prelims this Saturday?

This Saturday, May 24, Josh Taylor and Ekow Essuman will face each other in a decisive fight in the welterweight division. The fight, which will headline the “Land of the Brave” card at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, promises to be a clash of styles between two British boxers with a lot at stake: Taylor is looking for redemption on home soil, while Essuman will be looking to make the big break of his career.

Both men come in hungry for victory after contrasting moments. Taylor, the former undisputed super lightweight champion, returns to the ring after a year away and two consecutive defeats. Essuman, on the other hand, has a solid record (21-2) and a reputation as a tough opponent, with good defensive technique and stamina, qualities that could pose a real challenge for the Scot in his welterweight debut.

A new chapter for Taylor in familiar territory

This fight represents more than just a fight for Taylor: it is an opportunity to prove that he still has gas in the tank to compete at the highest level. The last time he fought in Glasgow, his controversial victory over Jack Catterall left many questions unanswered, and time out of the ring has intensified doubts about his physical and mental present.

Ekow Essuman, on the other hand, arrives with a 21-2 record and the ambition to spoil the local party. At 36 years of age, the Nottingham-born fighter has shown consistency and a difficult defence to penetrate. Although the odds favour Taylor, the gap is not as wide as at other times in his career. It will be a serious test in his welterweight debut.

Full card for “Land of the Brave”

In addition to the main event between Taylor and Essuman, the event will offer a robust undercard with emerging talent and national champions looking to shine in front of the Scottish crowd. Here is the full list of scheduled fights:

  • Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman – Welterweight (main event)
  • Nathaniel Collins vs Lee McGregor – Featherweight
  • Aloys Junior vs Davie Jamieson – Cruiserweight
  • Moses Itauma vs Mike Balogun – Heavyweight
  • Luke McCormack vs Samir Cuentas – Super lightweight
  • Alex Arthur Jr. vs Robbie Chapman – Super middleweight

The evening at Land of the Brave is not just about Taylor and Essuman. From the preliminaries to the main bout, the night is designed to offer a complete boxing experience, combining established names with up-and-coming stars of the ring.
