Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman: Date, time, where to watch, records and everything about the fight

Josh Taylor returns this Saturday, May 24, in a fight that could define the future of his career. The former undisputed super lightweight champion makes his welterweight debut against Ekow Essuman at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The fight will be broadcast live in the U.S. on DAZN.

The event is part of the “Land of the Brave” card and represents a key moment for the Scot, who is coming off two consecutive defeats and is looking to regain the respect of the boxing world from a new division.

A new beginning for Josh Taylor

Josh Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs) dominated the super lightweight division to become the undisputed champion in 2021. That victory over Jose Ramirez catapulted him to stardom. But after that, his legacy was tarnished: a highly controversial victory over Jack Catterall, a clear defeat to Teofimo Lopez and the loss of all his belts.

This Saturday he not only changes category, but also seeks to restart his career at the age of 34. After more than a year out of the ring, the big question is whether he still has the level to compete with the best in the welterweight division.

Essuman, a real obstacle in the way

Ekow Essuman (21-2, 8 KOs) arrives as the typical opponent who can ruin any comeback. At 36 years of age, the Briton has built a steady career on the national circuit. He has recent wins over unbeaten fighters such as Ben Vaughan and Owen Cooper, and is usually noted for his defence and steady pace.

Although the odds are with Taylor, Essuman will not be an easy opponent. For the Scot, it will be a tough test in his first fight as a welterweight.

Date, time and how to watch in the US

  • Fight date: Saturday, May 24, 2025
  • Location: OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland
  • Main card start time: 2:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. CT / 11:00 a.m. PT
  • Main fight estimated time: 5:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. CT / 2:00 p.m. PT
  • Live stream: DAZN (requires subscription)
  • Available in the US: DAZN app

Main card confirmed

  • Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman – Welterweight
  • Nathaniel Collins vs Lee McGregor – Featherweight
  • Aloys Junior vs Davie Jamieson – Cruiserweight
  • Moses Itauma vs Mike Balogun – Heavyweight
  • Luke McCormack vs Samir Cuentas – Super lightweight
  • Alex Arthur Jr vs Robbie Chapman – Super middleweight

Taylor cannot afford another defeat. His credibility as a contender is at stake, and this fight could determine whether he has a future at welterweight. Essuman, on the other hand, has a great opportunity to gain international visibility if he can pull off an upset in hostile territory.
