Josh Allen’s push for Chiefs superstar could shake up AFC balance

The Buffalo Bills have spent years knocking on the door of a Super Bowl appearance, only to be turned away each time. Their latest attempt followed a familiar pattern-dominating the regular season, battling through the playoffs, and falling just short against a team that has become their postseason roadblock.

Buffalo entered the playoffs as the AFC’s second seed after securing 13 wins in the regular season. They handled the Denver Broncos in the wild-card round and took down the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional matchup, setting up another high-stakes showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. The game was a rematch of a regular-season battle Buffalo had won at home, but this time, it was Kansas City who delivered the final blow, edging out the Bills 32-29.

Once again, the Bills‘ Super Bowl drought continued, stretching back to the 1993 season. With the AFC growing stronger every year, Buffalo’s front office faces mounting pressure to make critical offseason moves to finally break through.

One of those moves may involve an aggressive push to add more offensive firepower. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has hinted that Bills quarterback Josh Allen has had his eye on a specific target-Hollywood Brown. The speedy wide receiver is set to hit free agency, and according to Fowler, Allen has long wanted to play alongside him.

“The Chiefs very much want to keep receiver Hollywood Brown, who should have a good market due to teams’ desire for speed options on the outside. Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again. Will another star quarterback — like Josh Allen — be next? People with the Chiefs I spoke to this week believe that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown,” Fowler reported.

Brown didn’t get a full season in KC

Brown, known for his deep-threat ability, had an injury-shortened 2024 season but returned late in the year, finishing with 91 yards on nine receptions. Prior to that, he had a productive run with the Arizona Cardinals, logging 574 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. His peak performance came in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, where he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark.

Brown’s skill set aligns perfectly with what Buffalo needs-someone who can stretch the field and open up space for Allen’s big arm.

The question now is whether Allen can convince Brown to leave Kansas City and join Buffalo’s Super Bowl push. With free agency set to open in March, the recruitment battle is only just beginning.
