Josh Allen prepares an expensive gift for Joe Brady in true Tom Brady style, but Pat McAfee beats him to it

Joe Brady was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, and Josh Allen made it clear from the outset that the franchise’s most important player is fully aligned with the decision.

Brady steps into the role after spending the past three seasons as Buffalo‘s offensive coordinator, having first joined the staff as quarterbacks coach in 2022.

He replaces Sean McDermott, whose nine-year tenure ended following another postseason disappointment. Allen, despite arriving on crutches with his foot in a boot, was present at the press conference, a visible show of support for a coach with whom he already shares a close working relationship.

The change came in the aftermath of Buffalo‘s latest playoff exit, a 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. It marked the seventh consecutive season the Bills have failed to advance further, and the moment weighed heavily on Allen, who spoke with rare candour about the fallout.

“If I make one more play, that game in Denver, we’re probably not having this press conference right now,” Allen said.

From reflection to levity as Brady takes charge

If the morning was about reckoning with the past, the tone shifted later in the day. Allen appeared alongside Brady on The Pat McAfee Show, where the conversation moved quickly from playoff pain to the lighter realities of life as an NFL head coach.

Allen joked about the expectations that now come with Brady‘s new title, including the idea that he needs to upgrade his watch collection. The quarterback noted that he has bought Brady watches before and offered to help him find the right one this time around. That was when Pat McAfee stepped in, half joking and half serious, suggesting Allen should buy Brady a Rolex, not just for the head coach but for the entire new Bills coaching staff.

The exchange drew laughs, but it also revealed something more important. The comfort between Allen and Brady was obvious, and that rapport is central to why Buffalo chose continuity over a complete reset.

Rather than bringing in an outside voice, the Bills promoted someone who already understands the quarterback, the locker room and the expectations that come with leading a Super Bowl hopeful.
