Josh Allen gives Bills Mafia what they wanted, but he still owes them one

Playoff football delivered all the drama fans could hope for in the opening weekend of the NFL postseason.

The Buffalo Bills traveled to Jacksonville and secured a hard fought 27 to 24 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, keeping their Super Bowl hopes alive for the 2025 season. Josh Allen once again proved why he is one of the premier quarterbacks in the league.

With the game tied late in the fourth quarter, Allen powered the Bills downfield, setting up the decisive score with a nine yard push to the one yard line. Allen then punched it in himself, giving Buffalo the lead and ultimately the win.

Following the game, Allen and head coach Sean McDermott shared a jubilant moment on the field, celebrating in front of thousands of Bills fans who made the trip to Jacksonville.

As The Athletic noted, “Allen has been the centerpiece of this team for years, and in critical moments, he continues to make plays when it matters most.”

Allen‘s performance comes amid questions about the team’s ability to make a deep playoff run.

Critics had suggested that Buffalo‘s roster might struggle against top tier competition, particularly after a season marked by inconsistent play from some skill positions. Yet Allen‘s composure and late game heroics silenced many doubters.

“Josh played like Superman today,” ESPN analyst Ryan Clark remarked. “This is exactly the kind of leadership and execution you need to advance in the playoffs.”

Where the Bills will travel next

With their win secured, the Bills must now wait to see the outcome of Sunday night’s matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots to determine their next opponent.

Should the Patriots win, Buffalo will travel to Denver to face the top seeded Broncos. However, if the Chargers upset New England, the Bills could also travel to Denver, creating a different playoff scenario.

The NFL playoff structure leaves room for unexpected twists, especially with the lower seeded teams. As CBS Sports reported, “The postseason has a way of turning on a dime. Any of these lower seeded teams can pull off an upset, which is exactly what makes Wild Card weekend so compelling.”

Buffalo‘s preparation will also hinge on watching other matchups, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Houston Texans.

If the Texans pull off a surprise win, it could influence travel and matchups for the second round, further emphasizing the unpredictability of the playoffs.

McDermott addressed the uncertainty after the game, noting, “We’ve got to take it one step at a time. Josh gave us the win today, but there’s a lot more football to play. We’ll watch the other games, prepare accordingly, and make sure we’re ready for whoever we face next.”

The Bills‘ victory over Jacksonville illustrates the high stakes and excitement of NFL postseason football.

Allen‘s late game heroics underscore the importance of elite quarterback play in critical moments, and Buffalo fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief, at least until the next playoff challenge arises.

With their eyes set on the Super Bowl, the Bills must now navigate a tricky path through the playoffs, where any team, regardless of seed, has the potential to create havoc.

One thing is clear. With Josh Allen under center, Buffalo will always be a team to watch in 2026.
