Josh Allen gets back to his roots amidst mounting criticism following brutal Bills loss

This week, Thursday Night Football had a lot of eyes on it for various reasons. It featured two AFC teams in the thick of the playoff race. The Houston Texans needed a win at home to get above .500, with reigning MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills coming to town. While Buffalo was coming off of a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team was playing inconsistently.

Allen was a big part of that, committing too many turnovers and taking an unprecedented amount of sacks. That was only amplified by a vicious Texans defensive line, which got to Allen for a career-high eight sacks taken. They also picked off Allen twice, picking up the win and sending the Bills to a 7-4 record. In the aftermath, Allen has taken the brunt of the criticism for his recent performances.

While Allen hasn’t had a ton of help from a middling pass-catching corps, he simply hasn’t played like everyone expects him to given his incredible track record. Looking to reset both mentally and physically, Allen went back to his roots a couple of days after the loss.

Josh Allen’s jersey retired by Wyoming on Saturday

On Saturday, Allen was in attendance as he had his No. 17 jersey retired by the Wyoming football program. He became only the third athlete to have their number retired in Wyoming’s history – and he’s the only football player to earn the honor.

Allen spent three seasons at Wyoming, taking over as the starter in his second season with the team. Once he became the starter, he created jaw-dropping plays while putting plenty of bad plays on tape as well. His athletic traits and arm talent made him a very intriguing draft prospect, though, which led to the Bills picking him 7th overall.

Once considered a reach, that pick has changed the Bills franchise’s fortunes. Allen clearly hasn’t forgotten where it all started., and now he’s enshrined in Wyoming’s history.
