Super Bowl LIX has been over for a few days, but the viral showdown between former MLB pitchers John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. is still garnering tremendous attention from viewers on social media.
While his son Patrick struggled to elevate the Kansas City Chiefs to a win in New Orleans over the Philadelphia Eagles, Pat Sr. and Rocker very nearly came to blows on Bourbon Street, and their interaction continues to be discussed and dissected in the days since the Chiefs lost, 40-22, at the Caesars Superdome. The two men, both over 50 years old, have been ripped for their behavior in the past as well as the present, but is something else in the works amid their viral confrontation in The Big Easy?
A fake fight between Mahomes and Rocker?
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has demonstrated there are few depths that he is not willing to plumb in order to generate attention and revenue for his website. He has confirmed some sort of “bout” will take place between Rocker and Mahomes Sr. in April — and this “meeting” on Bourbon Street was a preview of what fans can expect.
It now appears that viral confrontation was mere promotion for a boxing match ahead for the former pitchers, both of whom have courted controversy away from the mound. Rocker, 50, has been heavily criticized for homophobic statements made during his playing career; Mahomes Sr., 54, has been arrested multiple times for driving while intoxicated.
Rocker and Mahomes Sr. have continued to feud on social media, with the Chiefs quarterback’s father referring to Rocker as a “menace to society” while Rocker referred to the elder Mahomes as a “f*****g loser who can’t take a joke.'”
