In a remarkable turn of events, golf legend John Daly is preparing for a triumphant return to the golf course after undergoing emergency hand surgery. The 58-year-old fan-favorite, known for his charismatic personality and powerful drives, shared the news of his surgery on social media, posting a photo from his hospital bed in Tampa, Florida, with his left hand heavily bandaged.

The January surgery corrected complications from chronic osteoarthritis in his left hand, an issue that first emerged during the 2024 Chubb Classic when Daly withdrew after his club struck hard ground during a shot, triggering a painful flare-up.

Despite the seriousness of the procedure, Daly expressed gratitude for the successful surgery and reassured his fans of his imminent return to the sport. He expressed optimism immediately after the surgery, stating he would “be back playing in no time,” a prediction now coming true with his Newport Beach return after the standard 6-12 week recovery timeline for such procedures.

The official announcement he did not make

The announcement of Daly’s return came not through an official PGA Tour Champions statement, but via social media. Scheyden Precision Eyewear, one of Daly’s sponsors, took to Instagram to confirm that the beloved golfer will be back in action at the Hoag Classic 2025 in Newport Beach. “Hoag Classic 2025 Newport Beach is around the corner! and we have Scheyden’s Very Own JD! Ready and Committed! Let’s Go!!!!,” the enthusiastic post read.

The Hoag Classic 2025, scheduled to take place from March 19-23, 2025, will mark Daly’s return to competitive golf following his surgery. The event, held at the Newport Beach Country Club, is one of the premier tournaments on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, attracting some of the biggest names in senior golf.

Even during his recovery, Daly has not been idle. He has been actively revitalizing “The Lion’s Den,” his innovative membership platform launched in December 2024. The platform offers fans GHIN handicap tracking and exclusive merchandise starting at just $9 monthly, providing a unique way for Daly to connect with his supporters and share his passion for the game.

Daly’s return to the golf course is eagerly anticipated by fans and fellow players alike. His resilience and determination in the face of adversity continue to inspire many, and his presence at the Hoag Classic 2025 is sure to add excitement to the event.
