Joe Burrow reveals his biggest sports dream – and it has nothing to do with the Super Bowl

Joe Burrow has revealed that chasing Olympic gold has long been a dream, and now, with flag football’s debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, that dream is suddenly within reach for NFL stars who want to make history on a global stage.

Speaking at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic press conference, Burrow described the significance of this opportunity, noting how it adds an international dimension to his football career and gives him a new milestone to pursue outside of the NFL.

“When this got announced, I was pretty excited about it,” Burrow told TMZ.

“The opportunity to win a gold medal, you know, that’s something that I’ve thought about a moment like that for a long time-since I was a kid. I think it will be something very special.”

His remarks highlight a shift among professional football players, who are increasingly weighing international competition alongside traditional NFL achievements.

Although Burrow did not explicitly rank Olympic success above a Super Bowl win, his comments suggest the emotional value and global recognition of representing Team USA would be profound and memorable in a unique way.

The league’s decision to allow participation also indicates a strategic alignment with global sports culture, giving players a chance to expand their legacies beyond domestic achievements and into the growing international footprint of American football.

Burrow intercepted by Logan Paul in Flag Football clash

Flag football emphasizes speed, precision, and spatial awareness over contact, making it a logical fit for quarterbacks accustomed to reading defenses, timing throws, and executing quick decisions in high-pressure situations on smaller fields.

Instead of tackling, defenders stop plays by pulling a flag attached to the ball carrier, creating a safer environment while preserving the strategic complexity of the sport, which rewards accurate passes and intelligent route running.

During practice for the Fanatics Classic, Logan Paul intercepted a pass from Burrow, impressing attendees and social media followers alike, demonstrating that even non-NFL athletes can influence outcomes in this fast-paced format.

The interception, while not part of official scoring, illustrated how the game tests reflexes and anticipation, skills vital for quarterbacks transitioning from 11-on-11 NFL football to five- to seven-player flag teams.

Stars like Tom Brady are helping raise the profile of the event, blurring lines between sport and entertainment, while competitors like Burrow embrace the chance to compete in a new and high-stakes environment.

For Burrow, the focus remains on legacy, as Olympic participation presents a unique platform to showcase his talents internationally, giving him an opportunity to achieve recognition that transcends team affiliations or professional championships.

As the 2028 Games approach, more NFL players are considering the global stage, and Burrow‘s enthusiasm signals that Olympic gold, once unthinkable for professional football athletes, could soon rival even the most prestigious domestic honors.
