Jets’ bizarre condition to Aaron Rodgers if he wants to stay in New York: ‘Forbid’ him to stay with Pat McAfee

A significant transformation is underway for the New York Jets, leaving veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers with an uncertain path ahead but he could remain at the MetLife Stadium – if he gets rid of Pat McAfee.

Reports indicate that the Jets are prepared to move on from the four-time MVP, as newly appointed head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey take the reins of the organization.

So with the franchise undergoing a rebuild in their quest for a first ever Super Bowl championship, the 41-year-old may be forced to find a new team, if he doesn’t opt for retirement before the 2025 season.

However, the door for Rodgers’ return is not entirely closed. The Jets are open to keeping him under strict conditions, including full participation in the offseason program and, surprisingly, an end to his regular appearances on The Pat McAfee Show.

“I was told that when they had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about what the future would look like, if you’re going to be part of this team, you’re going to attend all of training camp,” Russini revealed on her Scoop City podcast. “You’re not going to do Pat McAfee interviews anymore.

“They had a conversation with him of, ‘If you were to stay here, here is how we would want it to be.’

“So this to me is Aaron Glenn getting control back.”

Rodgers’ NFL future on the ropes

With Rodgers’ next move still uncertain, speculation about his NFL future continues. He could either retire or seek a new opportunity elsewhere; and when that decision is made, there’s a strong possibility he’ll announce it on The Pat McAfee Show.

Yet despite the chance to remain in New York, Russini does not believe a reunion was ever a likely scenario after two horrible years together through the 2023/24 and 2024/25 NFL seasons.

“I think that, no matter what the Jets were going to say,” Russini added. “Aaron Rodgers wanted to move on. I think he was smart to talk to the Jets and say, ‘Where do we stand, how does this work?’

“And maybe if they were on the side of convincing him more, this could have changed, but this wasn’t the way it was when they traded for him, when it was exciting.”
