Jason Kelce shares how he and Kylie coped with the painful loss of a pregnancy

Jason Kelce attended the 43rd annual March of Dimes Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, December 3, to accept the Sports Achievement Award from the organization that seeks to improve the health of mothers and babies.

After the award presentation by his wife, Kylie Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center spoke about a painful moment: the loss of their first baby and how he found comfort in others to cope.

Jason spoke openly about the pregnancy loss he experienced with his wife

The eldest of the Kelce brothers married Kylie (McDevitt) in April 2018 after beginning their relationship in 2015. A year later, they welcomed their first daughter, Wyatt, who is now six years old. Then came Elliotte, four, Bennett, two, and most recently, they welcomed Finnley Anne, seven months old.

However, before their daughter Wyatt, the couple experienced a pregnancy loss. During the October 2 episode of Ky’s podcast “Not Gonna Lie,” she herself commented that in 2018 she discovered she was pregnant, but found out she had lost the baby on November 5, coinciding with her husband’s birthday.

“I remember going out to my truck in the middle of practice and meetings, overcome with grief and emotion,” the retired NFL star explained during the event at Cipriani 42nd Street, NY, as he recalled this devastating moment, according to People.

However, amid the pain, Jason revealed that he and his wife had the support of many people, which made them realize they were “not alone in this“:

“You really find out in moments like those how awesome sports are [and] how awesome teams are. There are so many people that shared with me, coaches, teammates, people within the Eagles building, friends of ours, and you really find out how prevalent this actually is. How often miscarriages happen,” Jason reflected, adding, “It’s something that I think, a lot of times, often doesn’t get said and spoken about.”

To conclude his speech, the 38-year-old former Eagles player thanked the organization for its work and contribution to the community: “The work that March of Dimes does is not abstract. It’s not statistics. This is family. This is kids, this is babies. So the support that everyone here is giving to families and parents around the country should not be understated. I greatly appreciate you guys being here. I appreciate this award,” Jason concluded.

Meanwhile, on her podcast, Ky mentioned that at that time, many of the people who came to support her confessed that they had gone through this difficult situation, which led her to reflect on this: “It’s curious how sometimes it takes experiencing a loss for people to open up and talk about theirs,” she said.

She also emphasized that even though her four daughters came along after this loss, it still hurts, and she sympathized with those who continue to go through the pain.
