Jason Kelce opens up to Travis after Chiefs’ playoff elimination

The Kansas City Chiefs were unable to finish the regular season as they would have liked, suffering their sixth consecutive defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders, losing 14-12 in Week 18.

This brought their season record down to 6-11, but what is more surprising is that they were eliminated from the playoffs, something that had not happened in more than a decade and which Travis Kelce described as “embarrassing.” Meanwhile, his older brother Jason did not hide his true feelings about it.

Jason opens up to Travis

Both brothers have experienced what it feels like to win a Vince Lombardi trophy firsthand, but also what it hurts to be left out of the playoff race. Jason experienced it in 2020 and his younger brother in his rookie season in 2013 (although the TE did not play due to a knee injury) and is going through it again currently.

This was one of the topics they reflected on in Wednesday’s episode of “New Heights,” the podcast they both host. There, Travis admitted to feeling embarrassed and declared that it was a “tough season.”

“Yeah, there’s nothing worse than not making the playoffs,” Jason replied. “It is very frustrating, especially when you guys have done it so much [made deep playoff runs], like, it’s absolutely crazy. And you guys obviously should be very proud of that, but that actually probably hurts more, I would assume,” concluded the former Eagles player.

The Chiefs star quickly stepped in and admitted, “It’s kind of an embarrassing feeling, but you keep it moving, man,” he said.

In addition, Travis, who finished the season with five touchdowns and 76 receptions for 851 yards, revealed his future plans: “I’m still a fan of the game, and I still love the game, so I’ll be tuned in throughout the playoffs, seeing how this thing shakes out over the next couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old TE finished the last year of his contract with the team after deciding to play one more season in February, following their loss in the Super Bowl final. Now, after this turbulent season, many fans speculate that this campaign was the TE’s last.

However, he himself assured that it will depend on his physical condition and that he will make a decision when he feels it is appropriate: “I think right now, it’s just finding that answer and seeing how the body feels after this game and kinda when it all settles down,” he said.
