Jalen Hurts won’t listen to Cam Newton as Patrick Mahomes shows up in his worst nightmare

Jalen Hurts is gearing up for Super Bowl LIX, but some of his recent comments have sparked discussions among fans and analysts alike as he leaves the Carolina Panthers’ 2016 MVP, Cam Newton, embarrassed on his own show.

The moment came as the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback shared his mindset heading into the big Super Bowl game against the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9, delivering a response that left his former peer momentarily embarrassed.

As Newton took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about his own experience in the league and the pain of not winning the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos at the end of the 2015/16 NFL season, he admitted he cried at the loss.

And whilst the 35-year-old, who also played for the New England Patriots, left himself bare with his honesty, the Eagles star simply had no sympathy with a cold response that left his host feeling embarrassed.

“Focus. Focus and finish,” Hurts replied, of his ambitions for Super Bowl 59. “I can relate to you on that, not the cry.

“But I can relate to you on coming up short after giving it everything that you had. But you know, in this game sometimes it’s just not enough. Honestly, it’s not your turn yet.”

All Newton could offer in response was a wry smile, seeming stunned into silence for a brief moment. Hurts, however, did hint at grief by refusing to talk about the 2022/23 Super Bowl, which he lost to the Chiefs.

Hurts sends message to critics

Hurts has also faced his share of criticism throughout the season despite leading the Eagles to the final game of the year once again, with people calling out his consistency compared to Saquon Barkley.

While he had moments of brilliance like against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, where he threw for one touchdown with a 71.4% completion rate-he also struggled at times. Yet he remained unfazed.

“I feel like everyone has their own opinion,” Hurts said of his haters. “I think success and all of those things are defined by the person and what they consider success.

“And here we are, going to the Super Bowl again, having an opportunity in front of us to handle business and finish the job.”
